TISD student center dedicated to longtime educator
Dan Haskins '52, longtime educator and civic leader, is honored Tuesday morning for years of service to the Texarkana Independent School District at its annual Texas Public Schools Week community breakfast. TISD dedicated its newly renovated high school cafeteria in Haskins’ honor.

$5 MOBILE GIVING FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN
(AUSTIN, Texas) 11.3.09 — Get involved by texting “52000” and the code “HT” on a cell telephone will forward $5 to Huston-Tillotson University as part of a new mobile giving fundraising campaign.
The program was designed to attract and encourage giving from recent graduates who are comfortable with many different forms of technology. “We created the concept with the Millennial Generation and Generation Y in mind, but everyone can take advantage of the easy, convenient tool for giving,” said Vicki Minor, Vice President for Institutional Advancement. While giving is increasing overall among all groups at Huston-Tillotson after last year’s economic downturn, giving among young alumni has remained level. “We’re excited about the giving potential of the campaign, and encourage everyone to start texting to 52000,” said Minor.
The 52000 code is close to HT’s 1952 merger year when Samuel Huston and Tillotson Colleges merged to form Huston-Tillotson College and now Huston-Tillotson University. Recently, University officials announced a 12% increase in enrollment from last year, which reflects the highest enrollment since the 1952 merger with 882 students matriculating. More than 94% of HT students receive financial aid.
The $5 contribution is donated directly from a subscriber’s cell telephone and charged to their monthly telephone bill.

Austin Chapter Members Receive Service Awards
A salute to the following Austin Chapter members, Mr. Marvin Douglas and Dr. & Mrs. A.L. Mackey for the meritorious volunteer work that they performed in the city. They were presented the Community Service Award - Black History Month Honorees, by the City of Austin.

The Dallas Chapter Gospelfest 2010
The Huston-Tillotson University Dallas Alumni Chapter will host a Gospelfest Sunday, March 21, 2010 at St. Luke Community United Methodist Church, 5710 East R.L. Thorton Freeway, Dallas, Texas at 5 PM. All contributions will help support the Dallas Alumni Chapter scholarship fund. The Gospelfest is free to the public. An offering will be conducted and your gift will help support a student at Huston-Tillotson University. Local choirs and musicians are welcome to participate.

The San Antonio Alumni Chapter hosts the HT Concert Choir
Sunday, March 28,2010 the San Antonio Alumni Chapter will host the HT Concert Choir. The annual fund raiser will be held at 2nd Baptist Church, 3310 E. Commerce, San Antonio, Texas at 4p.m. Admission is free and food will be served. All donations accepted to benefit Huston-Tillotson University.

Saturday, April 24, 2010 the Houston Alumni Chapter will host, Prelude to a Derby Party at the Chateau. It is a Kentucky Derby Style party featuring the HT Jazz Ensemble.
